Dozens rescued from Highway 99 after vehicles get stuck in floodwaters; 1 found dead
We have breaking news that we've been following all morning long. We see the Sacramento chopper overhead right now doing a search for a credible report of a missing person possibly in those floodwaters. They don't know if this person is clinging on to a tree or stuck in a car there that was stuck in the flood last night . We do know from continuous fire that they started rescuing people at 9:00 last night. At least 15 people had to be plucked from their cars because they decided to drive through and were overcome by floodwater. Some people were just taken out of their cars because of that flood water, but at one point, fire crews thought they had rescued everyone. Then they received a report that there was, in fact, a missing person. So this exact metro fire chopper has been overhead. At one point, the first responders got on top of a car and started smashing out those windows to see if anyone was inside. But as far as we know, that search is continuing. And right now Highway 99 closed in both directions and the Dillard Road area looks more like a river flowing there. You can see all of that standing water. We saw a number of vehicles that were stuck because of this hard closure and a number of big rigs have been trying to make their way through stuck for hours and hours and hours and also a number of floating cars in the water. So it's going to take a lot to clean up. Highway 99, you can see the first responder vehicles right there, the cars that are submerged in water. And we're told it could be at least 24 hours before some of this water starts to drain and the road can finally be back open. But just tense moments as the search is on this morning for a missing person. So it's a dry day today, but we don't know what's going to happen because more rain is on the way for the weekend. And you can see those responders in the water right now modeling their way through and trying to see if they spot anyone out there.
